Ditching the Diet

This is the most radical of the courses I offer. It is probably the most demanding in terms of commitment, trust and willingness to try different behaviours. This is the course for yo-yo dieters who have had enough.

It is radical because:

  • Yo-yo dieters rely on the security blanket of their next diet.
  • This is about your eating and what drives it, not your weight.
  • When you stop dieting you may have to face unexpected thoughts and feelings.
  • Many serial dieters use their unhealthy relationship with food to avoid addressing other issues in their lives. We will look at your eating in the context of your whole life.
  • You may not, at this stage, believe you can every trust yourself around food.
  • You may be afraid to give up the rules you feel you “ought” to live by.

What is clear is that:

  • Will power will usually give out in the end.
  • Hating your body is no way to motivate yourself.
  • Lecturing, hectoring and bullying yourself is not an effective long-term motivational strategy.
  • Denial sets up craving so you are setting yourself up to fail with a deprivation based regime.
  • In order to be at peace you need to change your relationship with food.

This course is for you if:

  • You are sick of the whole dieting game. You need to be ready to stop depriving yourself, to learn to accept yourself and to develop confidence in yourself as you are now.
  • You are prepared to be challenged.
  • You are prepared to reflect and learn from you behaviour.
  • You are committed for the long-haul. This is not a quick fix although some people find it faster and easier than others.
  • You may be looking for a way to lose weight that is unpressurised and which does not get in the way of your normal life.
  • You are looking for a permanent solution because you have never succeeded in keeping weight off.
  • You want to eat “normally” without gaining weight.

The basic course is £550. This will give you the basic tools and allow for exploration of your relationship with food. As eating can be a complex area for some it is possible that some people may like additional support beyond the basic course.
