Weight Maintenance
Most of us serial dieters know that reaching your target weight is only the beginning. There are gloomy statistics about the fact that almost all dieters regain their lost weight within 5 years. As a serial dieter myself, I set about trying to understand and solve this problem for myself. I have read many, many books and academic papers. I have concluded that the rules for staying effortlessly slim are simple:
- Eat when you are hungry
- Stop when you are full
I also know (from personal experience as much as research!) that most dieters, and if you are reading this, then you may be one of them, find this very difficult. But it can be done and there is now much more interest in the non-dieting movement which is sometimes called intuitive eating.
As always, I do not think that there is one magic, guaranteed route. We l all learn in different ways and follow different roads to get to the destination.
This course will enable you to give up your diet sheets, your fear of food and to eat like a "normal" person. The idea is that you learn to trust yourself and that we experiment until we find the way that works for you.
We will identify the thinking and feeling traps you set for yourself, the habits you have formed that undermine your success and we will look closely at the excuses you use for over-eating.
We will also look at the nature of change itself. It may cheer you to know that researchers in change and learning have identified that it is not a straightforward, linear process but that real change involves slipping occasionally into old, unhelpful habits. How we respond to these is critical to our success in the long-term so on this course you will find out how you sabotage yourself and how you can stop doing this.
